George McQuinn was a solid hitter and excellent fielder with St. Louis from 1938 to 1945. In 1943 he hit .243 with 12 home runs and drove in 74 RBIs for the Browns (now the Baltimore Orioles) who finished in sixth place in the AL. When Lou Gehrig retired, McQuinn became the starting First Baseman for the Yankees, and in both 1947 and 1948 was named to the All Star Team.
On the inside back collar of the jersey is the "Rawlings" manufacturers tag. Adjacent to that is an additional manufacturers tag with the jersey size "40 REGULAR" on it. On the front left tail of the jersey is "McQuinn 43" in script embroidered in brown thread. Across the front of the jersey is "BROWNS." On the back is the player number "3." All lettering and numbering is done in brown on orange felt. On the left sleeve is a shield-shaped "American Flag" embroidered patch which has been restored. There is a brass zipper down the entire front of the jersey. The jersey shows excellent game use with the felt letters on the front worn off in several places. There are holes worn in many areas of the lower portion of the jersey on both front and back. Aside from the restored patch there appears to be no alterations of any kind.
