The Montreal Royals were a AAA farm club for the Brooklyn Dodgers during the years 1939-1960. The team holds a unique place in baseball history as being the first major-league affiliate to break the so-called "colour barrier", by signing Jackie Robinson, an American of African descent who played with the team during the 1946 season. This wooden paddle measures 17-1/2 inches long and has been signed by Jackie Robinson in pencil rating a 9 and also by thirteen other players from that team, rating from 7 to 9. The Royals "Indian" logo has been stamped on the fat end of the paddle. The paddle is in overall EX condition and has been shellacked to preserve the wood and signatures. Accompanied by a LOA from Jimmy Spence of PSA/DNA.
