Pitcher Denton True Young's pitching was known to be "fast as a cyclone." Shortened to "Cy" by the reporters of the day, the nickname stuck. He won 511 games in the Majors from 1890-1911. The annual award given to the best pitchers in each League is named after him. This is a 4" x 5" receipt handwritten and signed by Cy Young, which reads, "$500, August the 3rd 1921, Received from Mr. Young my father five hundred dollars as legacy, D.T. Young" with Young's signature. Also included are a newspaper clipping upon his death, a newspaper box score, two snapshot photos of a retired Young at home and an 80th birthday postcard. Accompanied by a letter from Jimmy Spence of PSA/DNA.
