The 1988 Notre Dame Fighting Irish went undefeated 12-0-0 under Lou Holtz to capture the National Championship. This size 12 ring was presented to fullback Anthony Johnson (#22) as a member of this great team. The ring appears to have been sized, thereby removing the manufacturer's marks. The center features a raised football into which are set 13 chips, around a gold and black enameled "ND." Around this in raised letters it reads "National Champions" with the embossed black enameled year "1988." On the left shank in raised gold letters it reads "Notre Dame, Trust, Love, Commitment" around a carved depiction of the famed "Golden Dome." On the right shank is a raised gold football helmet with "Johnson" and "12-0-0" in raised gold letters. The ring shows some wear on the shanks with a small piece of black enamel missing from the lower left shank between the word "Commitment" and the lower chevron.
