The Lions went to the NFL Championship game in 1954 however lost to the Cleveland Browns. The white leather ball has "1954 DETROIT LIONS 48 CHICAGO BEARS 23" and "Presented to" in script and "GIL MAINS" painted in red and black letters on one panel below the laces that has been painted white (covering the "Wilson" and "Thorpe Sporting Goods" manufacturers imprints). On the other panel below the laces is the inflation valve, inflation information, "MADE IN USA" and the model name "THE DUKE" imprinted in black. There are over 30 autographs in black and blue ink on the other two panels. Signatures include Hall of Famers Bobby Layne, Joe Schmidt, Jack Christiansen, Lou Creekmur and Doak Walker. The autographs rate 3s to a few 6s. The ball is in good condition with some wear on the ends and several dirt stains. Accompanied by a LOA from Jimmy Spence of PSA/DNA.
