This Tennis lot features eight wooden tennis racquets (Kantwarp, American Beauty, Young Champ, Youth, Pacemaker, Winton, The Bat, Hermis), all from the first half of the 20th century. The Kantwarp (ca. 1920) was patented by J.J. Curley, constructed with very unusual vulcanized rubber inserts and overlays. The frame is in excellent condition (No string) with exceptionally elongated head and fine patina. The American Beauty (ca. 1930) is virtually unused with pristine original gut, large throat screw and perfect decals. The Wilson Young Champ is a 1940s frame with red nylon gut matching the red grip. The logos are very good and the patina is excellent. The Youth (ca. 1916) is a rare hickory frame with convex wedge, original red gut (multiple breaks), and very good decals. This racquet comes with its original brown cloth case. The Pacemaker is a 1940s MacGregor model that features a vivid silver/blue shoulder and throat area, very good logos, butt cap and original strings. The Winton is another MacGregor 1940s model racquet that was ideal for Women and Juniors. It has good logos and original string. The taped handle which was wrapped by the owner, was commonly seen before the invention of the modern type grip-wrap. The Bat is a 1920s model that features the Lee "slotted throat" and a replica autograph of Vincent Richards, Olympic champion and youngest winner of the U.S. National Men's Doubles. The Black Bat logo is excellent and there is one break in the original red and natural gut. The Hermis (ca. 1930) features a diagonally strung gut. The original green and gold gut matches the accent wrappings for a stunning appearance. The logos, wrappings, butt cap and strap are all in excellent condition.
