Commonly referred to as "Legal Tenders" because of their stated payment obligation, these notes were issued in eight Series, with this Speelman-White note being issued in the seventh (1917) Series. Featuring a portrait of George Washington in the center and a vignette of Christopher Columbus sighting land on the left, these notes are called "sawhorses" because of the unique design on the back. Overprinted with a small red scalloped seal on the left and red serial numbers, grades Uncirculated.
