Ernest Koken invented the first hydraulic barber chair in 1874 and produced many barber shop supplies in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Take a trip back to the "Olde" Barber Shop with this wonderful example that dates from the very early 20th century and is in fantastic condition for its age. Have a seat and be transported back to the days of the straight razor, leather strops, hot towels, shaving mugs and the old-fashioned haircut. All original, the full quarter sawn oak frame is beautifully sculpted and carved, including the four legs. Brown leather armrests with fancy rivets, sans headrest, cushioned brown leather reupholstered seat and back for ultimate comfort. Only a few button caps missing. The 44" tall, brass arm release for reclining is fully functional; all mechanics work. The footrests are made of wrought iron with elaborately designed leaves and vines. On the front wood panel is a plaque that reads "Jones Bros. & Co. Limited, Manufacturers, Toronto, Canada." In the center of the primary footrest amidst the vine pattern is molded "Koken Barbers' Supply Co., St. Louis, U.S.A., Patented." On the hinged extended footrest is molded "Koken."
