Walter Payton ruled the NFLs backfield from 1975 to 1987, playing for only one team, the Chicago Bears. He was called Sweetness, but to defenders Walter Payton was anything but. He was an unstoppable force running with the ball, he had great hands as a receiver out of the backfield, and he could throw a devastating block that would knock defenders out of their shoes. Payton won the NFC rushing title five straight years from 1976 to 1980 and played in nine NFL Pro-Bowl games. An amazing runner, Walter rushed for more than 1,000 yards 10 of his 13 seasons. His best season came in 1977, when he ran for 1,852 yards, third best in NFL history at that time. An amazing man, father and professional, his life was cut short at the tender age of 45. On the left front tail of the jersey is the "Wilson" manufacturers tag with the jersey size "44" on it. On the front, back and on both sleeves of the jersey is the player number "34" screen printed in black on orange numbering. Across the back of the jersey is "PAYTON" screen printed in black on orange on a white name plate. The jersey shows good game use with hit marks on the front, back and shoulder areas. There are small tears on the back, front and on both sleeves that have been repaired by the team. This jersey shows excellent game use and appears to have no alterations of any kind. This lot is accompanied with an additional LOA.
