The winningest coach in women's basketball history, Pat Summitt made Tennessee one of the preeminent women's college programs. She has led the school to 27 consecutive post-season tournaments that with a 92-22 record and 18 Final Fours. Under her guidance, the Lady Vols went to two AIAW and 10 NCAA title games. In 31 seasons, Summitt was named Coach of the Year four times. Her six NCAA Championships (1987, 1989, 1991, 1996, 1997, and 1998) ranks second only to UCLA's John Wooden. She also guided USA Teams to the 1979 Pan American Games title and the 1984 Olympic Gold Medal. An All-America player, she had previously won a silver medal with the first USA Women's Olympic Team in 1976. Through the 2004-2005 season, Summitt had compiled 852 career coaching victories at Tennessee, third all-time in NCAA (men's or women's) history; only Hall of Famers Dean Smith and Adolph Rupp have won more games.
