Drafted in both the NBA and NFL, John Havlicek began his career with the Boston Celtics after being cut during the Cleveland Browns training camp. "Hondo" helped the Celtics to four straight (1963-66) NBA championships and eight overall. He was the first Celtic player to score 1,000 points in 16 consecutive seasons. Havlicek was named NBA Finals MVP in 1974, and was selected to All-NBA teams 11 times. He appeared in 13 NBA All-Star Games. When he retired in 1978 he had scored 26,395 points in 1,270 games. Havlicek still ranks in the top ten in NBA career points scored and minutes played. He was enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1984 and named one of the 50 greatest players in NBA history in 1996. In college, Havlicek was an All-America at Ohio State and won the 1960 NCAA Championship along with teammates and fellow Hall of Famers Jerry Lucas and Bob Knight. Green jersey with white, green and white stripe trim around neck and arm openings. On the left front tail is the "Medalist Sand-Knit Boston Celtics" manufacturer's tag. Below that is an additional "Medalist Sand-Knit" manufacturer's tag with the jersey size "44" and wash instructions on it. Across the front of the jersey is "CELTICS." Below that and on the back is the player number "17." Across the back is "HAVLICEK." All lettering and numbering is done in white tackle twill. There is an autograph in black marker rating a 9 on the back "7" number. The jersey shows good game-use with very slight stains on the front "1" and back "7." There is a black dirt mark inside the right arm opening. The jersey appears to have no alterations of any kind. Accompanied by a LOA from James Spence Authentication.
