During the 1974 season, Tommy John permanently damaged the ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching arm and a new surgical procedure was performed. This operation, now known as Tommy John surgery, replaced the elbow tendon of his pitching arm with a tendon from his right wrist. The surgery was performed by Dr. Frank Jobe on September 25, 1974, it seemed that he would never pitch again, but he returned to the Dodgers in 1976. John went on to pitch until 1989, winning 164 games with his post-surgery arm. The blue wool cap has a green underside of the bill with "25" written in black marker, and white canvas headband. On the inside back of the headband is the "New Era" manufacturers tag. To the right of that is a white flag tag with size "7 3/8. On the front of the cap is the official Yankees interlocking "NY" logo embroidered in white. There is a signature in black marker rating an 8 on the underside of the bill. The cap shows game use and appears to have no alterations of any kind. Accompanied by a LOA from James Spence Authentication.
