After he fled from Cuba, the Yankees outbid Boston to bring JOSE CONTRERAS to New York where he pitched through mid-2004. Contreras' split-fingered fastball is among the best in the majors, and he used it to devastating effect in the 2003 World Series when he made four appearances as a reliever and recorded 10 strikeouts. This is Jose Contreras' 2003 NY Yankees game-used World Series home knit pinstripe jersey. On the left front tail is the "Russell Athletic" manufacturer's label. Attached is a white flag tag with jersey size "52" and material "100% Polyester," and another white flag tag with "2" extra length." Adjacent is a white patch with the year "2003." On the left breast is the "NY" interlocking logo done in blue tackle twill. On the back is the player number "52" done in blue tackle twill. On the back neck is the official MLB logo patch. On the left sleeve is the Yankees "100th Anniversary 1903-2003" patch, and on the right sleeve is the official "2003 World Series 100th Anniversary" patch. The jersey shows game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind. Accompanied by a letter from Yankees-Steiner Collectibles.
