In 1996, his last season, Ozzie Smith's veteran leadership helped the Cardinals to the NL title. In 19 seasons (1978-96) the "Wizard of Oz" recorded 580 stolen bases, good for 20th on the all-time MLB career list. The 1985 NCLS MVP, Smith won 13 Gold Gloves at shortstop and a World Series ring in 1982. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2002. On the inside left front tail of the grey jersey is the "Rawlings" manufacturers tag. Attached to that are two additional manufacturers tags with "SET 1 1996" and the jersey size "42" on them. Below that is an additional manufacturers tag with "1 INCH SHORTER LENGTH" on it. Across the front of the jersey is the official "Cardinals on a bat" logo and "Cardinals" in script embroidered in red, black and yellow. Below that on the left and on the back of the jersey is the player number "1" in red on black tackle twill. Across the back is "O. SMITH" in red on black tackle twill on a grey name plate. The jersey shows great game use with dirt stains remaining on the chest. There appears to be no alterations of any kind.
