Pitching 12 seasons for the Dodgers from 1955-1966, Sandy Koufax's greatest success came after the team moved from Brooklyn to Los Angeles. He led all pitchers in ERA five consecutive years (a MLB record), with his best mark of 1.73 coming in his final year of 1966. He threw no hitters in each season from 1962 to 1965, with the last one being a perfect game against the Cubs in 1965. He led the Dodgers to pennants in 1963, 1965, and 1966, winning the NL Cy Young each of those years. In 1965 he also eclipsed Bob Feller's 1946 single season strikeout record, fanning an incredible 382 batters. His lifetime ERA of 2.76 and 40 career shutouts certainly helped when he was voted into Cooperstown in 1972. This is Sandy Koufax's game-used batting helmet from the mid 1960s. On the front of the helmet is the "LA" logo in white magic marker and on the back is his player number "32," also in white marker. Inside the helmet is the manufacturer's "American Baseball Cap" size tag "7." On the inner leather padding is written "32-Koufax" in black marker, which is fading but clearly legible. The inner leather padding shows nice use and staining. The helmet shows tremendously heavy use with countless cuts, scratches, abrasions and gouges. There are also several small cracks and chips around the rim and brim. Comes with an additional LOA.
