Emperor Septimius Severus, the Commander of the Roman Army in North Africa, reigned from 193 to 211 AD. He was born of African descent in 145 AD, moved to Rome and became a Senator in 175 AD. This silver denarius was minted during his reign and measures 5/8" in diameter. It features a laureate bust on the front and a rider on horse on the reverse. Grades Fine.
