A "Boy Emperor" at age 15, Gordian III ruled Rome from 238 to 244 AD. This rare silver coin is distinguished by the lettering on the front: only Gordian III used legends including "PIVS" or "PIVS FEL." Measuring 7/8" in diameter, this coin is in the "antoninianus" or "double dinarii" denomination, distinguished by the use of a radiate crown on the front portrait as opposed to the traditional laurel wreath. Grades Extra Fine, a beautiful example.
