Collection of three rare hood ornaments from the 1950s, from Plymouth and Dodge automobiles. They show varying degrees of pitting, which is the main aging condition of hard chrome. Chrome is generally plated over steel, but needs oxygen to retain its brightness; when it "pits" it is actually pulling away from its substrate, but can easily be re-plated.
