Ernest Koken invented the first hydraulic barber chair in 1874 and produced many barber shop supplies in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Take a trip back to the "Olde" Barber Shop with this wonderful example that dates from the early 20th century and is in fantastic condition for its age. Have a seat and be transported back to the days of the straight razor, leather strops, hot towels, shaving mugs and the old fashioned haircut. All original, the full quarter sawn oak frame is beautifully sculpted and carved. Has brown leather riveted armrests, cushioned brown leather upholstered seat and back for ultimate comfort. 46" tall including the adjustable headrest, which is stamped on the paper dispenser "The Kandle" twice and "Pat. May 31 - 1904, Pat. Sept. 5 - 1905, Other Patents Pending." The metal arm release for reclining is fully functional, all mechanics work. The arms are in the shape of lion's paws, and the circular base is ringed with brass. The footrests are made of wrought iron with elaborately designed leaves and vines. In the center of the primary footrest amidst the vine pattern is molded "Koken Barbers Supply Co., St. Louis." On the hinged secondary extended footrest is embossed "Koken." There is some cracking in the leather on this unbelievably well preserved piece! You may never find a better example of this chair. This item will be expensive to ship.
