Pair of antique 1940s copper soda-acid fire extinguishers manufactured by Pyrene Manufacturing Company. Pyrene was the company that pioneered this type of fire extinguisher. The extinguishers have a heavy copper body with copper rivets down the back side and a small copper handing handle attached to the back above the rivets. On the top is a white metal wheel, painted red on one extinguisher and green on the other. A black rubber hose with a white metal tip is secured to the extinguisher body by a brass compression clip. On the front of the cylinder is a copper manufacturers plate with "Pyrene Reg. U.S. Pat. Off. SODA-ACID FIRE EXTINGUISHER" in raised blue letters, along with use, charging and maintenance instructions. At bottom is the Underwriters Laboratory information. A 1979 testing sticker is attached to the cylinder. The extinguishers measure 24" in height overall by 7" in diameter. The extinguishers are in very good condition with some green oxidation at the base of the cylinders. The testing sticker on one of them is partially removed. The extinguisher with the red wheel top has a slight dent in the top front above the name. Both of the "wheel" tops are worn and chipped in spots.
