George Herman "Babe" Ruth was an American original, baseball's first great slugger and the most celebrated athlete of his time. The southpaw hurler debuted with the Red Sox, winning 89 games in six years while setting the World Series record for consecutive scoreless innings. After leading the Boston Red Sox to two World Series victories, he was traded to the New York Yankees following the 1918 season. "The Sultan of Swat" converted to the outfield full-time after his sale to the Yankees in 1920 and led New York to seven American League pennants and four World Series titles. He finished with 714 home runs, leading the league 12 times, including a remarkable 60 round-trippers in 1927. After retiring as a player, Ruth coached for the Brooklyn Dodgers in the late 1930s, and was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936. After baseball, Ruth lived a quiet life with his second wife Claire. During the early 1940's, Mr. Ruth would wear this jersey at charity functions in association with 20th Century Fox. On the inside back collar of the jersey is the "Gold Smith" manufacturer's tag. Below this is an additional tag with "G.Ruth 46" chain stitched in blue thread. The number "46" indicates the size. On the left inside tail of the jersey is the "20th Century Fox" label with "Babe Ruth 46" stamped in. On the inside back tail is the "Western Costume Co." stamp. Adjacent to that is the remnant of another "Western Costume Co." stamp. On the left breast is the official "NY" logo, and on the back is the player number "3," both done in blue felt. The jersey shows wear and appears to have no alterations of any kind. The jersey is accompanied by a LOA which attests in 1991 the jersey was inspected by Hal Potter of Movie Tone News, a division of 20th Century Fox, confirming the authenticity of this jersey. This is perhaps your only chance to get a pinstripe jersey worn by "The Bambino" himself.
