Although his great fame came on the baseball diamond, Babe Ruth was always drawn back to one of his early loves, the sport of bowling. So enthused was he over the game that he regularly bowled with his friend Ford Frick at Bronxville Lanes in Frick's home town of Bronxville, N.Y. Ruth loved bowling there so much, in fact, that he almost purchased the Bronxville alley. Frick, of course, would later go on to be the Commissioner of Baseball. Ruth was also a renowned "Duckpin" bowler, a game which uses smaller pins and only a four pound ball. Ruth's bowling ball is displayed in the National Baseball Hall of Fame, along with the bat with which he smashed a then-record 60 home runs in the 1927 season. This 6" x 9" 1946 "29th Annual Metropolitan Bowling Championships" schedule from Pape's Bowling Academy in White Plains, NY, is signed in fountain pen on the cover by Babe Ruth. The schedule booklet is several pages thick and shows minimal wear. Cover reads in part, "1946 Official Schedule, 80% Handicap, March 1st to April 7th, 1946, Auspices New York Bowling Association, Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the American Bowling Congress." The Ruth signature is bold and grades a 9. Also included is an 8" x 10" black and white photograph of Ruth bowling, the photo appears to have only minor wrinkling. Both pieces have been professionally matted and framed to a 16 1/2" x 21 1/2" display. Accompanied by a LOA from James Spence Authentication.
