In the 1996 World Series, Jim Leyritz came to bat in the top of the eighth in Game Four, with the Yankees trailing the Atlanta Braves 6-3. Leyritz came through by hitting a three-run homer, tying the game and setting the stage for the Yankees to win their first World Series in 18 years. Leyritz continued his heroics in 1999; again facing the Braves in the World Series, again in the eighth inning, Leyritz connected to hit a solo home run, sealing the Game Four victory and sweep for New York. It was the 12th straight World Series victory for the Yankees, dating back to 1996. Leyritz played for 11 seasons in the majors and hit 90 home runs, however he will always be remembered for hitting this last home run of the 20th century. This jersey is from that special occasion. White jersey with blue pinstripes. On the left front tail of the jersey is the "Russell" manufacturers tag with the jersey size "46" and wash instructions on it. Attached to that is an additional manufacturers tag with "100% POLYESTER" on it. Below that is an additional manufacturers tag with "1999" on it. On the left breast is the official "NY" logo in blue tackle twill. On the back is the player number "13" in blue tackle twill. On the right sleeve is the embroidered official "1999 World Series" logo patch. On the left sleeve is a black armband and "5" in black tackle twill, worn in memory of Hall of Famer Joe DiMaggio who passed away in 1999. The jersey shows excellent game use. There are stains on the front, back and sleeves of the jersey that are the result of the champagne used in the locker room to celebrate the World Series victory. There appear to be no alterations of any kind. The jersey was obtained from a family member and is accompanied by a Leyritz family letter, giving this jersey impeccable provenance. Comes with a photo of Leyritz hitting this historic home run.
