DON MATTINGLY was one of the all-time most popular Yankees. A former captain of the team, his number has been retired by the Yankees. A lifetime .307 hitter who won the batting title in 1984, he was a six-time All Star between 1984-89, was the 1985 AL MVP and a nine-time Golden Glove winner. He later returned to the Yankees as a hitting coach, wearing this game-used road knit jersey in 2004. On the left front tail is the "Russell" manufacturers tag with wash instructions on it. Attached to that is are flag tags with the jersey size "46," "100% Polyester" and "2" extra length" on them. Adjacent to that is an additional tag with "2004" on it. Across the front of the jersey is "New York." On the back is the coach's number "23." All lettering and numbering is done in blue on white tackle twill. On the outside back collar is the official embroidered "MLB" logo. The jersey shows game wear and appears to have no alterations of any kind. Accompanied by a Yankees-Steiner Collectibles COA.
