A three-time MVP in the Japanese Central League, Matsui has been nicknamed "Godzilla," generating incredible excitement among fans. Fittingly, he has even made a cameo in a Godzilla film, "Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla." Many reporters and photographers have followed him from his home in Tokyo. On January 14, 2003, Matsui signed a three year contract with the New York Yankees and became their starting left fielder. On the 2003 Yankee home opener, Matsui became the first Yankee to hit a grand slam in his first game at Yankee Stadium. Matsui went on to hit .287 with 16 home runs and 106 RBI. On the inside back waistband of these home pinstripe pants is a "Russell" manufacturer's tag with a size "40" on it. Attached are two flag tags, one reading "100% POLYESTER -3" IN WAIST H-CUT," and the other "-1" TAPER." Adjacent to that is a "55-MATSUI-37/42-34-03" strip tag. The pants show light wear and appear to have no alterations of any kind.
