Alfonso Soriano's career began in Japan with the Hiroshima Carp, training at their Carp Academy for Dominican players. In 1997, he was promoted briefly to the varsity team, and, wearing uniform number 74, he appeared in nine games, batting .181 (2 for 17) with two walks. In the inside back tail of the grey knit jersey is the "Mizuno Pro" manufacturer's tag. Attached below is another tag with player number "74" and other wording (faded). Across the front is the team name "CARP". Below that and on the back is the player number "74". Above that on back is the player name "SORIANO". All lettering and numbering is done in red tackle twill. On the left sleeve is the team name "CARP" embroidered in red. In the inside back tail of the white mesh jersey is the "Descente Professional" manufacturer's tag. Attached below are two other tags, player number "74" and the other tag is blank. Across the front is the team city "HIROSHIMA". Below that and on the back is the player number "74". Above that on back is the player name "SORIANO". All lettering and numbering is done in red tackle twill. On the left sleeve is the team city "HIROSHIMA" embroidered in red. Both jerseys show game-use and appear to have no alterations of any kind.
