On January 22, 1980, Pete Maravich was picked up as a free agent by the Boston Celtics, then the top team in the league, only five days after having been waived by the Utah Jazz. On the surface, Maravich was an odd choice for the team-oriented Celtics, but he worked himself back into shape and applied his considerable skills to the unfamiliar challenge of serving as a part-time contributor. He averaged 11.5 points per game in 26 outings for Boston and was still capable of impressive scoring bursts. In one game he scored the final 10 points in a come-from-behind win over the Washington Bullets. During the postseason he managed a modest 6.0 ppg as he helped the Celtics reach the Eastern Conference Finals. On the left front tail is the "Medalist Sand-Knit Boston Celtics" manufacturer's tag. Below that is an additional "Medalist Sand-Knit" manufacturer's tag with the jersey size "42" and wash instructions on it. Across the front of the jersey is "CELTICS." Below that and on the back is the player number "44." Across the back is "MARAVICH." All lettering and numbering is done in white tackle twill. The jersey shows good game-use appears to have no alterations of any kind.
