Coach Clarence "Big House" Gaines (1982) retired in 1993 with a remarkable 828-447 record over a record 47 years at Winston-Salem State University, making him the second winningest coach in NCAA history. He placed a stamp on college basketball that will remain forever. Gaines' 1967 squad was his best ever, led by Earl "The Pearl" Monroe. In 1967, the Rams compiled a 31-1 record, and became the first predominantly black school to win an NCAA basketball title, the NCAA College Division championship. He died in 2005. Coach Marv Harshman (1985) compiled 642 victories at Pacific Lutheran (241-121), Washington State University (155-181) and the University of Washington (246-146) from 1945 to 1985. He served as a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee from 1975 to 1981 and coached the U.S. to a gold medal in the 1975 Pan American Games. These are the original circular medallions and biographical plates that were on exhibit at the prior Hall of Fame's "Honors Court" from 1985 to 2001; the Hall moved to a new facility in 2002 and a new gallery to honor the greats of the game was built. Silver relief medallions in EXMT condition with minor scratching and small dents, biographical plates are NRMT.
