One of the greatest leaders of all time, Alexander The Great had conquered most of the known world before his untimely death at the age of 33. Ruling from 336-323 BC, he is still revered today and his tactics and accomplishments continue to be studied the world over. This gold AV stater coin was minted in Abydus on the Hellespont (Asia Minor) in the period 310-297 BC and is a posthumous issue. The stater was an ancient Greek coin that circulated circa 500 BC - 50 AD and was valued at either two or four drachmas (Didrachma or Tetradrachma). On the front is a magnificent portrait of a right-facing Athena with crested Corinthian helmet. On the reverse is Winged Nike with victory wreath and stylus. This rare coin has been encapsulated and graded ICG-EF45.
