Hieron II ruled Syracuse, Sicily from 274-216 BC and eventually allied his city with the Roman Empire. This Sicilian bronze drachma coin dates from early in his reign, circa 274 BC, and features a left-facing bust of Poseidon on the front and a trident on the reverse.
