One of the major sports events of the 20th century, the rematch between Joe Louis and Max Schmeling at Yankee Stadium served as the pinnacle of Louis' career, as he knocked out Schmeling in 124 seconds. This 9-1/2" cast statue of Joe Louis stands on a 3" tall wood pedestal base, with front plaque that reads "Joe Louis vs Max Schmeling, June 22, 1938" in raised gold lettering and "Valentino" stamped underneath the base. Louis is depicted in a boxing stance, certainly appears to be from the period. Shows wear with some cracks and chips missing from the knees and feet, overall a truly fine example.
