The Kansas City Athletics of the 1950's were nicknamed the "Kansas City Yankees", due to so many of the top NY Yankees prospects coming from the Kansas City major and minor league system. The 1958 Athletics included a future NY Yankees legend, Roger Maris who would soon win back to back MVP awards in the American League and lead the Yanks to several World Series titles. He would also join Babe Ruth as the only player ever to hit 60 home runs during a season, eventually breaking the Babe's long standing record by belting number 61 in 1961. There were several other major league stars on the 1958 Athletics who had good numbers including Bob Cerv who batted .305 with 38 home runs and 104 RBI's and Hector Lopez who hit 17 home runs and drove in 73 RBI's. This "Mickey Mantle" model bat is autographed by 35 members of the 1958 Kansas City Athletics, all in black ink. The signatures include Roger Maris rating a near perfect 10, Whitey Herzog, Spud Chandler, Ralph Terry, Bob Cerv, Bob Swift, Tom Gorman, Hal Smith, Hector Lopez, Bob Martyn, Ray Herbert, Ken Johnson, Preston Ward and Howard Reed. The signatures rate an 8-9 overall. On the knob end is "1958 A'S" written in black marker and "K55" stamped. On both the knob and barrel ends are mounting loops. Accompanied by a LOA from James Spence Authentication.
