Commonly referred to as "Legal Tenders" because of their stated payment obligation, these notes were issued in eight Series, with this Lyons-Roberts note being issued in the sixth (1880) Series. Featuring a portrait of Daniel Webster on the left and a vignette of "Pocahontas being presented to the Royal Court of England" on the right, this $10 note is overprinted with a small scalloped red seal on the right and blue serial numbers. The eagle in the lower center looks like a jackass when it is turned upside down, thus these notes are referred to as "jackass" notes. A popular and very scarce note, this one shows some wear and signs of circulation.
