Earvin "Magic" Johnson had the complete basketball package: he could score, pass, play defense, and was an on-the-court leader. The 6-foot-9 Johnson was the first tall point guard in the NBA. After leading Michigan State to the NCAA title in 1979 and being named the tournament's MVP, Johnson was the first player selected in the NBA Draft. His impact on the league, and on the Lakers, was immediate. In the 1980 NBA Finals, Magic showcased his talents, playing all five positions on the court and leading Los Angeles to the title. He would lead the Lakers to the title three more times in the 1980s and be named Finals MVP three times. Named to 12 All Star teams (game MVP twice), Johnson won league MVP honors three times. When he retired, he ranked first in career assists in the NBA. Named one of the 50 greatest players in NBA history in 1996, Magic was elected to the Basketball HOF in 2002. This very jacket was worn on the court during the "50 Greatest" ceremony on February 9, 1997. On the inside collar of the leather jacket is the "Jeff Hamilton" manufacturers label with the size "XXL" flag tag. On the left breast is the NBA "50th" Anniversary logo in a gold, red, white, and blue leather patch. On the left sleeve is the "JH Design" leather patch. On the right sleeve is the player number "32" in yellow on purple leather patches. Across the back of the jacket is "LAKERS" in yellow on white leather patches. The jacket is autographed on front and back in silver marker and rates a 9. The jacket shows wear and has no alterations of any kind. Accompanied by a LOA from James Spence Authentication. This lot comes with an ironclad letter of provenance from our consignor.
