The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame honors players who have shown exceptional skill at basketball, all-time great coaches, referees, and other major contributors to the game. Its mission preserves and promotes the game at all levels and serves as basketball's ultimate library of history. It was established in 1959, with fundraising leading to an actual building opened to the public on February 17, 1968 at Springfield College. In 1985, a new building off-campus was opened near downtown Springfield. On September 28, 2002, the Hall of Fame found its third home, located just south of the previous Hall of Fame. This turnstile was an integral part of the Hall of Fame for over thirty years. As you paid your admission fee, you were given a special coin. You placed this coin into the slot on the turnstile and you were able to see your very coin appear inside the front of the turnstile. This black and orange pained turnstile still contains hundreds of admission coins which are valuable in their own right! It measures approximately 24" x 28" x 38-1/2" and has a numeric counter display on one side currently reading 91143. The manufacturer "Perey NEW YORK" appears on the top. It is in perfect working order and is all original. This would make a great addition to any sports room or vintage basketball collection. This turnstile will be expensive to ship due to size and weight.
