Morgan was signed by the Houston Colt .45's as an amateur free agent in 1962. Early in his career, Morgan had trouble with his swing because he kept his back elbow down too low. Teammate Nellie Fox suggested to Joe that while at the plate he should flap his back arm like a chicken to keep his elbow up. Morgan followed the advice, and his flapping arm became a familiar sight to baseball fans. He was enshrined in Cooperstown in 1990. On the front left tail is the "Rawlings" manufacturer's size "40" tag. Below is a wash instructions tag with a "SET 1 1969" flag tag attached. In the collar is a felt strip tag with "40 18 69" in black chain stitch. Across the front is "HOUSTON." On the back is the player number "18." All lettering and numbering is done in navy blue on orange felt. On the right sleeve is the "Astros" patch and on the left sleeve is the MLB "100th Anniversary" patch. The jersey is autographed on front in black marker and rates an 8. The jersey shows game-use and there appears to be no alterations of any kind. The autograph is accompanied by a LOA from JSA. An additional LOA will be provided.
