One of the most storied teams in the history of baseball and arguably the greatest team to ever take the field, the 1927 Yankees roster featured an unprecedented roster of six Hall of Famers: Ruth, Gehrig, Lazzeri, Hoyt, Combs and Pennock. Known as "Murderer's Row," six Yankees batted over .300 that year: Gehrig (.373), Ruth, Lazzeri, Combs, Meusel and Paschal. Winning 110 games, a record setting performance at the time, they went on to beat the Pirates 4-0 in the World Series. 1927 is also the year that Babe Ruth hit 60 home runs, a record that would last for decades before Roger Maris hit 61 in 1961. Just think that in 1909, Ty Cobb had led the A.L. in home runs with a whopping total of nine! A true delight in the realm of team signed baseballs and one of the most highly sought after, this rare red and blue stitched Reach OAL (Johnson) baseball has been signed in black fountain pen by 23 members of the 1927 World Champion New York Yankees. Signatures include HOFer Babe Ruth on the sweet spot, HOFers Lou Gehrig and Tony Lazzeri, Pat Collins, Bob Meusel, Ray Morehart, Benny Bengough, Wilcy Moore, Myles Thomas, Bob Shawkey, Joe Giard, Urban Shocker (CH) and several others that are very light. Ball is lightly toned. The Gehrig signature grades a near 7, the Ruth a 6, the other names listed above average a 5 to 6. A rare ball from one of baseball's all-time great teams. Accompanied by a LOA from JSA.
