Home run champion. Media star. Fan favorite. Hero. Legend. These are just a few of the words that have been used to describe the inimitable Babe Ruth, the most celebrated baseball player in history. In fact, the word "Ruthian" has entered the popular vernacular to define "of mammoth proportions." In the early 20th century, many baseball players added to their often meager paychecks by "barnstorming" - playing with teams that usually moved around the country during the off season. The great Babe Ruth was no exception, and was suspended for the first six weeks of the 1922 season as barnstorming was prohibited to players who appeared in the World Series. This red and blue stitched Wilson Pacific Coast League (Williams) baseball has been signed in blue fountain pen on the sweet spot by the one and only Babe Ruth. Ball is evenly toned and shows nice game use, signature grades an overall 7. Our consignor advises that this ball was obtained by her father directly from the game, a barnstorming game played between 1928-1931. Accompanied by a LOA from JSA.
