John Havlicek was easily the best sixth man in NBA history, adding firepower to the Boston Celtics' offense and defense during his 16 years with the team. During those years, Havlicek won eight championship rings, and he received NBA Finals MVP honors in 1974. He was the first player to score 1,000 points in each of 16 consecutive NBA seasons. It was for Havlicek's leadership and incredible endurance as much as for his scoring ability that legendary Celtics coach Red Auerbach called him "the guts of the team." "Hondo" was selected to play in 13 All-Star games and retired in 1978 as the Celtics all-time leading scorer with 26,395 points. He is also one of only six NBA players to play for more than 46,000 minutes in a career. Before turning professional, Havlicek was a member of the 1960 Ohio State NCAA Championship team. Named one of the 50 greatest players in NBA history in 1996, Havlicek was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1984. On the left front tail of this home knit jersey is the "Medalist Sand-Knit" manufacturer's tag with the jersey size "44" on it. Above that is an additional manufacturer's exclusive tag that reads "Designed & Tailored Exclusively for the Boston Celtics." Across the front is "CELTICS." Below that and on the back is the player number "17." Across the back is "HAVLICEK." All lettering and numbering is done in green tackle twill. The jersey has been autographed on front in blue marker and rates a 9. The jersey shows game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind. The autograph is accompanied by a LOA from JSA.
