Paul Silas is perhaps best remembered by professional basketball fans as one of the fearsome quintet that brought the NBA championship back to Boston after several years of ownership by the Boston Celtics' arch-rivals, the New York Knicks. As a forward, Silas was a powerful player who dominated opposing players in the rough-and-tumble zone under the net, and he is still ranked as one of the top rebounders in the history of the NBA. After his retirement as an active player in 1980, Silas stayed active in the game, and the beginning of his tenure as head coach of the Charlotte Hornets in 1999 seemed to promise future success. On the left front tail is the "Spanjian" manufacturers wash tag with the jersey size "44" on it. Across the front is "PHOENIX." Below that and on the back is the player number "29." The name on back has been removed but the outline remains. All numbering and lettering is done in orange on white tackle twill. On the inside back of the shorts is the "Spanjian" manufacturers wash tag with the shorts size "36" on it. The “EAST” logo patch is on each leg of the shorts in white tackle twill on a orange on white tackle twill patch. The jersey and shorts show game-use and besides having the name on back removed appears to have no alterations of any kind.
