Lou Gehrig teamed with Babe Ruth to form baseball's most devastating hitting tandem ever. "The Iron Horse" had 13 consecutive seasons with both 100 runs scored and 100 RBI, setting an American League mark with 184 RBI in 1931. Gehrig hit a record 23 grand slams and won the 1934 Triple Crown behind a .363 average with 49 home runs and 165 RBI. His .361 batting average in seven World Series led the Yankees to six titles in 13 years. A true gentleman and a tragic figure, Gehrig's consecutive game streak ended at 2,130 when he was felled by a disease that later carried his name. Offered here is a pair of Lou Gehrig New York Yankees road flannel pants from the 1931 season. Inside the waistband is the "Spalding" label and next to this is the name "L. Gehrig" in red chain stitch. There are several repair marks on the pants as well as some holes. One of the repairs inside the pants is done with a Hersey’s cocoa bag. The pants were purchased eleven years ago from a man in upstate New York. This man had a Gehrig full uniform because the Yankees sent their uniforms to a bush league team that he owned. The pants show good game use and, with the exception of the repair marks, appear to have no alterations of any kind. These pants are a terrific complement to a Gehrig game-used jersey as well as a standout piece by themselves.
