This 4-1/2” x 5-7/8 album page has been signed in black fountain pen by HOFers Babe Ruth and Lefty Gomez, Buddy Myer, Ed Linke, Eddie Phillips, Walter Stewart, Johnny Stone, Pete Susko, Fred Sington and Ossie Bluege. Both Ruth and Gomez are Yankees HOFers, the rest of the players were all teammates on the 1934 Washington Senators squad (Senators catcher Eddie Phillips played for Washington only during the 1934 season). The Yankees’ and Senators’ final meeting of the season fell on the last day of the season, September 30, 1934 at Griffith Stadium. What makes that game significant is that it was the scene of the final game in Yankee pinstripes for Babe Ruth. Accompanied by his wife and daughter, Ruth was presented with a scroll of appreciation from Senator fans. Also on hand was the band from St. Mary's Industrial School, where the Babe was raised. Ruth went 0-for-3 in Washington's 5-3 victory, flying out to centerfield for the final out of the game and left the field crying. Although the Yankees and Senators played against each other 22 times that season, perhaps this page was signed on that memorable final day, at the twilight of the great Babe’s career and his last game as a Yankee. Light edge wear on page, bold signatures grade an 8 to 9 with the Ruth grading a 9. Accompanied by a LOA from JSA.
