Teddy Ballgame is widely considered to be the greatest pure hitter of all time. He won the Triple Crown Award twice and finished his career with 521 home runs, not to mention an astounding .344 lifetime batting average. He is the last player to hit .400 in a season, when he hit .406 in 1941 and was enshrined in Cooperstown in 1966. On the top of this navy blue cap is the Boston “B” done in red on white felt. On the inner leather band is the “McAULIFFE” manufacturer’s tag which is partially removed from the band. Adjacent is the cap size “7” stamped in black. Under the brim is player number “9” written in black marker which is faded. The cap shows nice game-use with cracking of the inner leather band and appears to have no alterations of any kind. We were told by our consignor that the cap was originally sourced from a Boston Red Sox equipment manager, Johnny Orlando.
