****THE TITLE AND DESCRIPTION OF THIS LOT HAVE CHANGED AND DIFFER FROM OUR PRINTED CATALOG****The enormous desirability of this style of Washington Redskins helmet can be attributed to its extraordinary rareness (the style was only used for two seasons, 1970 and 1971), and its direct link to pro football immortal Vince Lombardi. Not only did Lombardi immediately turn the Redskins into winners upon his arrival in 1969, but he was also responsible for a new uniform look which debuted in 1970. Perhaps the most significant aspect of the uniform makeover was a reworked helmet logo based on the same design that had served him so well in Green Bay, a large single letter set on a white background. Sadly, Coach Lombardi passed away before the 1970 season and never did get a chance to see his players take the field in their new uniforms. However, this special Redskins design will forever be known as the "Lombardi R" helmet. Reconditioned several times, this perfect representation was issued to offensive lineman Gene Hamlin which he wore during his 1970 rookie season. Adding to rarity of this item, it's a vintage Riddell RK model with factory applied side decals and center stripe. Eventually this helmet was autographed by Redskins great Len Hauss and a facemask similar to what Hauss wore during that era was added. An extremely rare game-used Washington Redskins from a very special era. Accompanied by a LOA from JSA for the signature.br>
