In 2002, Sampras faced Andre Agassi in the U.S. Open Final. After a four-set battle between the two veterans, Sampras claimed a record 14th Grand Slam singles title and tied the record of five US Open singles championships. The tournament was the last of Sampras' career. After retirement, many regarded Sampras to be the greatest player of all time. During his career, he won 64 top-level singles titles and was ranked the World No. 1 for a record 286 weeks. Our consignor, a hotel bellhop at the Trump International Hotel in NYC, told us he acquired these items while working at this hotel where Sampras stayed during the U.S. Open in 2002. “Nike” manufactured “DRI-FIT” white shirt with grey stripes. There are no manufacturers tags present. Pair of “Nike” sneakers, white with blue trim, size “10.5.” Four white wristbands, each with the Nike “swoosh” logo embroidered. All pieces show wear and appear to have no alterations of any kind. Accompanied by a photo which appears to be a photo match as well as a letter of provenance from our consignor.
