****THE TITLE AND DESCRIPTION OF THIS LOT HAVE CHANGED AND DIFFER FROM OUR PRINTED CATALOG****Braves Field was the last of the "classic era" steel and concrete ballparks that were built in the years up to World War I and was a huge, luxurious palace when it opened in 1915. Home to the Braves until their move to Milwaukee, the park also hosted the cross-town Red Sox home World Series games in 1915 and 1916, and their Sunday games from 1929 to 1932. Braves Field was also known as The Bee Hive (or National League Park, formally) from 1936–1941, a period during which the owners changed the nickname of the team to the Boston Bees (the renaming of the team and stadium never took hold with the public, and were both eventually dropped). It hosted the 1936 All-Star Game. At times, there was magic in the park: the beginning of the careers of HOFers Eddie Mathews and Warren Spahn; Jim Tobin hitting three consecutive home runs while pitching the Braves to a win in 1942 (along with his two no-hitters in 1944); the stands filled to their 40,000 capacity during the 1948 Braves-Indians World Series, when Johnny Sain shut out Bob Feller and The Indians in the opener. By the 1940s, attendance figures dwindled as Ted Williams drew the attention of virtually all Bostonians to the Red Sox. With very little advance warning, in 1953 the Braves became the first East Coast team to pull up stakes and head west, abruptly relocating the franchise to Milwaukee. Thus, Braves Field ended its existence as a major league ballpark after a relatively short lifespan of 38 years. All in all, Braves Field was home to the National League Boston Braves/Bees (1915–1952), American Football League Boston Bulldogs (1926), National Football League Boston Braves (1932) and American Football League Boston Shamrocks (1936–1937). New information has led us to believe that this seat is not original to the stadium. However, it does not detract from the rarity of the figural. This seat is made of wood and iron, green in color, shows great wear with some paint chipping, crackling and wood wear, VG-EX condition overall. Measures approximately 21” wide x 31” tall. Plaque on the center seat back slat reads "Braves Field, 1912-1952 (Braves, Bees).” This outstanding seat is further distinguished below the right armrest, which sits on an rare ornate figural baseball with horizontal “NL” and vertical “BC”, below which is a figural baseball glove on a baseball diamond with bats on the side.
