Two letters regarding Yankees HOFer Joe DiMaggio’s retirement, first a 1951 typed letter sent from Joe DiMaggio to George Weiss of the New York Yankees. The content is concise and brief, "Dear Mr. Weiss: I desire to apply for voluntary retirement from the active list of the New York Yankees, the reason therefore being that following my long career in active play, I desire to enter another field. Sincerely, Joseph P. DiMaggio". As it is Joe DiMaggio's personal copy, the letter remains unsigned. Second, a December 19, 1951 typed letter of acceptance from Major League Baseball signed by Secretary-Treasurer Charles M. Segar confirming Joe's removal from the active player list. Also an 8” x 10” ACME news photo of DiMaggio seated in a chair at Yankee Stadium after his retirement announcement, photo is EXMT.
