George Thomas Seaver was a franchise power pitcher who helped change the New York Mets from lovable losers into formidable foes. The quintessential professional, "Tom Terrific" won 311 games with a 2.86 ERA over 20 seasons and his 3,272 strikeouts set a National League career record. Seaver fanned 3,640 batters in his career, including 200 or more 10 times and 19 in a single game once. "Number 41" was the National League Rookie of the Year in 1967, a three-time Cy Young Award winner, and made more Opening Day starts (16) than any pitcher in history. On the front left tail of the jersey is the "Spalding" manufacturer's tag. Adjacent to this tag is the "71" year tag. In the collar of the jersey is a white felt strip tag that reads "41 43 Set 1 1971" in blue stitch. Part of this tag has fallen off. Across the front of the jersey is "Mets." Below that, and on the back is the player number "41." All lettering and numbering is done in blue on orange tackle twill. On the left sleeve is the "Mets" team logo patch. The jersey is autographed in front in blue marker and rates a 7. On the front inside waistband of the pants is the "Spalding" manufacturer's tag. Adjacent to this tag is the "71" year tag. In the back inside waistband is a white felt strip tag that reads "41 35-25 Set 1 1971" in blue stitch. The jersey and pants show good wear and there appear to be no alterations of any kind. The collar and shoulder appears to have come apart (other than the reinforcements) and each has been reinforced. The autograph is accompanied by a LOA from JSA.
