From 1953 to 1984, Major League teams tour Japan and played against local teams. Early in 1956, the Dodgers were invited by Matsutaro Shoriki, the "father of Japanese professional baseball," to make a trip to Japan following the regular season. The Dodgers were at the height of their popularity, having won their first World Series Championship in 1955. On the back of this blue satin Kimono is “Dodgers” embroidered in white and the Brooklyn “B” embroidered in bronze. Down the front are Japanese symbols alongside embroidered baseballs. There are also flowers embroidered at the bottom on front. This one was Gil Hodges’ from the trip. The kimono is in EX overall condition with no rips/tears and is accompanied by a photo of Hodges wearing it. It is also accompanied by a copy of a family LOA.
