Bob Gibson played for the St. Louis Cardinals from 1959 to 1975. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1981. Gibson was a fierce competitor who rarely smiled and was known to throw close, fast inside pitches to let batters know who was in charge, similar to his contemporary and fellow Hall of Famer Don Drysdale. Even so, Gibson had good control and hit only 102 batters in his career (fewer than Drysdale's 154). Revered by St. Louis baseball fans, Gibson dominated with his fastball, sharp slider and a slow, looping curveball. In the eight seasons from 1963 to 1970, he won 156 games and lost 81, for a .658 winning percentage. He won nine Gold Glove Awards, was awarded the World Series MVP Award in 1964 and 1967, and won Cy Young Awards in 1968 and 1970. On the left front tail is the "Rawlings" manufacturer’s size "44" tag. Below this is the wash tag with a "Set 1 1969" flag tag. Between the Rawlings tag and the wash tag is “Gibson 69” embroidered. Across the front is "Cardinals" in red on blue embroidered stitch. Going through the letter "C" is a gold embroidered bat with a red embroidered Cardinal perched on each end. Below on the left and on the back is the player number “45” in red on navy blue felt. Across the back is the player name "GIBSON" in red on navy blue felt. On the left sleeve is the MLB "100th Anniversary" patch. Autographed on front in black maker with “1969” added and rates a 9. On the inside front waistband is the "Rawlings" manufacturer’s size "34" tag. Next to this is the wash tag with a "Set 1 1969" flag tag. In the back waistband is the “Gibson 69 34 25 ½” embroidered strip tag. The player number “45” is written in the waistband in black marker. The uniform shows good game-use and displays beautifully. It appears to have no alterations of any kind. The autograph is accompanied by a LOA from JSA.
